General Rules
Student/Chaperone morning meeting: Each morning in the lobby at the call time. Please check that you have the following before leaving you room. Room Key, Subway Card, Money, Gloves, Hats.
Leaving the Hotel: STUDENTS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE HOTEL WITHOUT A CHAPERONE FOR ANY REASON
Cell Phones: Students must put their phones away while walking in the city.
Curfew: We have very early mornings and will need to be on time for all DECA events. Curfew will be 12:00a.m.
Student Rooms: All students will be responsible for room maintenance! Keep your items together and neatly organized.
Student will NOT be allowed in rooms of the opposite gender!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!
Walking around the city
When you are walking in a group DO NOT stop to look at a window or anything that catches your eye. Keep your eyes on the students/chaperones ahead of you at all times.
If you get separated from your chaperone or group, stay where you are. They will come back for you.
When you leave your hotel room make sure you have your hat, gloves, phone, room key and ID. We cannot wait for you to go back to your room to retrieve them. Periodically check to make sure you still have all your belongings.
Do not stare at homeless people, strange looking or acting people, or anyone who makes you feel uncomfortable. Do not start conversations with anyone you don’t know.
It’s fine to take pictures, but make sure that you don’t take a picture of a stranger without asking their permission.
Purchasing items
When you are standing in a line to pay for food or admission make sure you have your money in your hand ahead of time. Do not stand fumbling with your wallet.
When you buy something you are responsible for carrying it around for the rest of the day. Bringing a backpack (girls and boys) or purse (girls) is a good idea.
Stores are very crowded in New York. Wait your turn in line patiently.
Traveling in the subway
When you are going into a subway station have your subway pass out and in your hand.
Do not re-swipe your subway card if the turnstile does not work. Have an adult chaperone assist you.
Always board the subway through the same door as the rest of the group.
Do not make eye contact with passengers, stare at them, talk to them or laugh at them.
Do not speak loudly while in the subway car. Many passengers read or sleep while on the subway.
Phones do not work in the subway so keep them in your pocket so you don’t run the risk of dropping or losing them.
Tours (Circle Line, Wall Street, Garment District)
Be courteous and respectful when the tour leader is speaking.
Do not interrupt when the tour leader is talking. You will be allowed an opportunity to ask questions.
Attending presentations or shows with large audiences (Radio City Music Hall, Madame Tussaud’s)
When watching a performance you should limit your speaking to a whisper to your neighbor only.
Do not clap loudly, whistle or make inappropriate noises when a performance or presentation is complete.
